If you’re like me, you often wonder what exactly the person on the treadmill next to you is listening to. Well, Billboard teamed up with Spotify and The Echo Nest to put my workout playlist FOMO fears at ease.
After analyzing the data, they found that Eminem’s “’Til I Collapse” is the top workout song. The team polled the more than 40 million users and 1.5 billion playlists to generate the top tracks across a variety of different workout styles including running, cycling, weightlifting, CrossFit, yoga, the gym, and Tae-Bo. (Eminem was nowhere to be found on the list of the 35 yoga songs — which sounds like a missed opportunity.) Other top artists include Avicii, Skrillex, Fort Minor, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kanye West, and Dropkick Murphys.
Some other interesting findings: Joggers prefer pop and alternative music, bikers listen to EDM and pop, and the CrossFit crowd is pumped up by rock and hip-hop tracks. And, across all workouts, rap/hip-hop is the most popular genre. See the full breakdown over at Billboard.
The data collaboration proves that curating the perfect workout playlist is truly an art form — see some of our favorite fitness mixtapes here.
