Cute Cropped Hair-Styles Take Over Hollywood

If you're anything like us, the summer makes you want to do crazy things. Some of them are worth pumping the brakes on (skinny dipping, ditching a week of work for a Palm Springs sojourn), but some are seriously good calls. For instance, warm weather always seems to make us want to reach for the sheers and lop off our locks for a super-short cut. And with some high-wattage beauty icons jumping on the bandwagon (hi, Michelle Williams, Ginnifer Goodwin, Cate Blanchett), we thought we would do a roundup and ask our local hair guru to dish on the dos and don'ts of the summer crop mop!

Though this crop cut is a little reminiscent of Carey Mulligan's Jean Seberg-esque pixie, this summer style is a bit longer and slightly messier. Plus, it's not just reserved for international stars alone; Local L.A. lovelies are also into this refreshing crop, and we've spotted The Like's Z Berg and 90210's Jessica Stroup rocking this shaggy crop all over town. Of course, we would never recommend taking the plunge without consulting a pro, so we asked the one and only Jen Atkin (who was not only responsible for the sixties bouffant at the Christian Dior resort show, but also trims the tresses of Christina Hendricks and Stroup) from the Andy LeCompte Salon, to give us a little insight into some 'do dos and don'ts.
DO: According to Atkins, shorter lengths are always more popular during the summer and are perfect for someone who loves to dress up and experiment with makeup. "It looks great with bright colors, flower prints, and anything with a sixties vibe," she says. "You can't help but want to dress like Twiggy or Mia Farrow with this cut!"
DON'T: She recommends steering clear of the style if you have a super-round face or a very strong jaw line, and thinks the cut looks best on anyone with delicate or petite features.
DO: As for the grooming and upkeep of your newly shorn locks, Jen knows that less is more. Just a little heat on the ends ("a T3 flatiron gives the ends of your hair an edgier feel") and a dime-size amount of texturizing product is all you'll need to be ready to go-go all summer long.
