Why You Should Consider Tri-Liner

There are a lot of beautiful, creative things that happen in our little beauty department. So many, in fact, that sometimes those things might get lost amidst all the other beautiful, creative things going on. With that in mind, we wanted to call attention to something that we feel deserves a little more time in the spotlight: tri-liner.

What, you ask, is tri-liner? Well, friends, it's a look that we came up with on the set of our Anti-Valentine's Day beauty shoot with James Vincent, and it literally involves three different lines — and a whole lot of gorgeous.

The first step to creating this majesty is a classic black cat-eye, using painterly strokes instead of a solid one to give it a sketchy edge. We used a creamy matte pencil to get this effect. But, that's just the beginning. Trace your lower waterline with a waterproof gold liner, creating a subtle metallic glint. In this photo, you can see the gold shining through the model's upper lashes.

Finally — and this is what sets the look apart — create an exaggerated winged-out silver line on your lower lid, extending out past the black line. Use a silver eyeshadow and an eyeliner brush to get a crisp line. It should run parallel to the cat-eye on top, and there should be some skin between the two lines. Of this silvery magic, Vincent says, "[It] gives it a soft and smoky effect that's still rock 'n' roll inspired." That's pretty much all we've ever wanted in life.
