Twitter's Jack Dorsey introduces The Square, the newest way to make money transactions quick, efficient, and, with the help of Vivienne Tam, more stylish than ever. The tiny device hooks up to your iPad, iPhone or Android and acts as a credit card scanner that directly deposits money into your bank account through an app, perfect for boutiques, pop-up stores, flea markets, or sample sales. Think of it as a portable, compact cash register, with the potential to galvanize a whole flurry of self sellers. Dorsey enlisted Vivienne Tam to design the device's exterior with the Double Happiness symbol that's oft used in Chinese culture and symbolizes union. The Dorsey/Tam collaboration is refreshing and exciting, especially in light of the fact that Twitter is currently banned in China, and gives us insight on what could be the future of do-it-yourself retail.
