Vintage Ah Men Catalog—Someone recently posted a lot of these oh-so-'70s catalogs, and they are nothing short of a site to behold. Someone call Simon Doonan immediately.
I grew up on great fashion magazines. But now, when I go to the newsstand in search of something to inspire me, it's sadly slim pickins' (I know you know what I mean). If only some of today's mags and catalogs would take a cue from these vintage paper gems.
1. Vintage Ah Men Catalog—Someone recently posted a lot of these oh-so-'70s catalogs, and they are nothing short of a site to behold. Someone call Simon Doonan immediately.
2. Vintage French Vogue—Those in search of your next campaign concept, look no further...the stories here are gorgeous and of-the-moment in every way.
3. Vintage British Vogue—David Bailey, Raquel Welch, Helmut Newton, Mary Quant...only the cover line "Catch the Sun Looks" can rival all the crazy talents poured into this one issue.
4. Vintage Harper's Bazaar—Can you even imagine a time when publishers we're cool with a cover like this? No Angelina, no numbers, no hysterical cover lines. Just the spareness of this cover makes me want to look inside.
5. Vintage Seventeen—As a teenager, Seventeen was my bible. Now I'm wishing I'd kept them all.
6. Diana Vreeland, 1st Edition—Coming from 2002, this isn't exactly vintage, but we can still all learn a thing or two from this legend of audacious style.
7. The Secrets of Photographing Women—I don't even need to see what's inside this book but I want it.
8. Vintage Sears Catalog—A lovely person just gave me an archive of old Sears catalogs from the 20s through the 60s. I am not kidding, much of the stuff for sale could be on the floor at Opening Ceremony today.
