Some painters might like to brush away at a canvas in the privacy of a cave-like studio, alongside maybe a cat, against the backdrop of some music to slit your wrists to. Well, that was never the case for local hero David “Lebo” Lebatard. He likes crowds — really big crowds. Oh, and he also likes good music.
The Miami artist, who's been known to paint live alongside the likes of the Beastie Boys, the Disco Biscuits, and Thievery Corporation, will be staging a rare performance in his hometown on January 14, at The Stage. It's part of a three-series show dubbed Lebo Live!

With a new title as Gloria Estefan’s art director for her latest album, Lebo will work in tandem with a video performance artist (VJ) at this weekend’s exhibition. The VJ will synchronize a curated playlist to a video on a large projection screen while you take in all the magic. And who knows? Lebo may even throw a paintbrush into the crowd if we’re lucky.
When: Saturday, January 14, 11 p.m.
Where: The Stage, 170 NE 38th Street; 305-576-9577.
