Whit’s Fall Collection Outfits The Grown-Up Hipster

The niece of the American icon of girly prep, Kate Spade, Whitney Pozgay comes from a family of fashion-philes. So, it comes as no surprise that her debut line, Whit, has a touch of her aunt's girlish dandy style, but features a tomboyishness that's all her own. We're psyched that the Brooklyn-based designer isn't just another talent-free girl with family connections. Her impressive resumé includes a stint as the head designer of womenswear at Steven Alan, where she says she "explored the more boyish" side of her style. Her first lookbook, for fall '10, is inspired by the artist Henry Darger's sweet and sinister drawings of young girls, as well as some influences from the French trifecta of Jane Birkin, François Hardy, and Nouvelle Vague. The super graphic shots have some touches of whimsy along with strange headgear that'll make you do a double-take. Lovely pieces like the short, silk faille skirt with a lil' flounce, a poppy red cashmere sweater, and a hand-painted watercolor floral silk shift are all essentials for the hipster girl who's all grown up.
