When it comes to which city has the most André Balazs hotels, right now, L.A.'s winning the battle (though we think our Standard trumps their's). But, we New Yorkers are never content to be second-best, which is why today's news has us in the competitive spirit. Apparently, the hip hotelier has been looking at Manhattan's famed Chelsea Hotel, a fabulous albeit seedy landmark that's housed the likes of Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop, and Patti Smith. Word on the street is that Balazs, who tried to buy the Chelsea back in '07, is itching to cast the same spell on the space as he did to another iconic institution—Los Angeles' Chateau Marmont. While his rep debunks the rumors as "pure speculation," we're secretly hoping the construction workers come soon. East Coast baby! (New York Post)
