Miami’s Defining Cocktail Will Totally Not Surprise You

mojito
Jimmy Buffet might like Piña Coladas, but Miami has a drink it prefers ice-and-muddled-mint above the rest. With the Latin American population, the perennially tropical weather, and the duality of old-school tradition and cutting edge design, the mojito is MIA's drink of choice (hey, we told you so). Yup, that rum cocktail with refreshing lime is the libation that we most prefer, says Reuters. The news service goes on to quote Jennifer Massolo, former executive director of the Miami International Wine Fair, who says that "mojitos reign king" in The Magic City.
While the claim that mojitos rule the beach might feel obvious, what is interesting is that the concoction bridges Miami cultures: It appeals to snow birds seeking a traditional sun-drenched sip, while creative combos (Reuters mentions The Dutch, which has an absinthe-rinsed option) still push boundaries. What do you think? Sure, we've got some pretty fantastic caipirinhas and experimental margaritas, not to mention the old fashioned send-ups to the retirees (sidecars, anyone?), so do you think mojitos are really tops? Where do you go for your favorite rum-based drink? (Reuters)
