When we first peeped The Bull's Head Barn, it was a somewhat dilapated structure, weathered by the Hamptons' sea winds, and bereft of an owner for some long years. Enter entrepeneur Justin Belmont, a NYC native who's first foray into commercial art is on display this weekend with the opening of
Not A Gallery at the Bull's Head Bar. Belmont, who also started popular Manhattan social website/city guide
A Private Club, spent much of the winter stripping, painting, and sanding the Bridgehampton barn, turning it into an airy, contemporary
pop-up art space that's still charmingly rough around the edges. Up on offer are pieces from Belmont himself, bright canvases with images of everything from vintage postcards to old subway rolls, all digitally manipulated to pop in your living room, bedroom, or any blank wall. Our fave just might be the digitally mastered photographs of the barn's floor —it's kind of trippy seeing the paint splattered floors both beneath you and on the wall (we suggested "Barn Floor # 5": It's Pollack meets
Alien, and that's a good thing). Even if you don't happen to be a card-carrying member of the Hamptons weekend pack, the
affordable art (prices start at $249) is all available for sale
here. It's not really a (typical) gallery, is it?
