The Journal of Applied Psychology just published a study that concluded that very thin women earn, on average, $22,000 more than their "average weight counterparts." Heavier women earn even less. Interestingly, this pay disparity doesn't follow the same patterns for men (in fact, men receive more pay when their weights are more "average"). The study also controlled for socioeconomic and other confounding factors, so arguments that poorer women tend to be more overweight and are only qualified for jobs with lower pay become moot.
