We admit we haven't rocked the single-earring trend since our grade-school "punk" Halloween costume (punks also wore side ponytails, right?). But, recent events have put the trend back on our radar. First, Raf Simons sent models down the fall '13 Dior runway with just one bejeweled lobe. Then, on Sunday night, two actresses rocked the trend at the Golden Globes: Blue Is the Warmest Color star Adèle Exarchopoulos wore one crystal-covered starburst earring, while Emma Watson looked stunning in a simple pearl piece.
Suddenly, the single earring is starting to feel way more fashion-forward than "aging rocker" — and we're liking it. Think of it as the ultimate in minimalism (two earrings? How gauche!). Plus, it's a total win for anyone who's ever lost an earring and was too stubborn to toss the other. Or, it's the perfect way to subtly signal your deep love of Vermeer.
Click on for six favorite ways to wear the trend. Here's hoping this one catches on quick — otherwise, we'll be hearing a lot of "Excuse me, I think you lost an earring."
