The Perfect Outfit: A Study On 9-5 Dressing

Working in Teen Vogue, Jennifer Pastore is always in the company of snazzily dressed stylistas who look as good as the models they feature in their fashion tome. But the photo editor can definitely hold her own. Jennifer admits that her job affords her a lot of creative license when it comes to dressing, saying "I don't have any dressing restrictions, other than needing to look polished and presentable for meetings with agents and photographers." Yet, we can't help but admire her work style aesthetic, which is a case study in transitional dressing. Her penchant for smart silhouettes and boardroom-friendly hues, as in the case of her navy jacket and slim gray pants, means Jennifer can easily walk into a last-minute meeting with the suits. And even though she confesses to going for the simplest option when deciding what to wear in the morning, her knack for knowing what works, like adding on a bold bauble to an otherwise safe getup, allows her to mingle in style alongside chic officemates during openings and after-work parties. As much as we'd like to steal the pieces in her closet, we'll settle for studiously copping Jennifer's fashion philosophy.

Outfit 1: A Suit For All Seasons

This tailored suit might get a lot of flack for being boring but Jennifer shows us how to keep this work staple interesting. Instead of going for a one-color combo, try matching complementary hues together. Try camel with taupe or black with olive.

Outfit 2: The Bold Sheath
"I like minimal shapes that are slightly architectural. I like both bright colors and, of course, lots of black." Jennifer gives a conservative dress the glam treatment by picking one in a rich emerald hue and accessorizing it with striking gold extras.
