There must be something in the Fenty blood that puts Rihanna and her brother one step ahead of the trends.
Rorrey Fenty, a.k.a. Gallast, was spinning at London's Boujis club when Rihanna and co. pulled up looking like a magpie's dream. And though Rih looked fantastic in an iridescent crop top, the evening's shining star was her lilttle brother.
If you haven't heard Rorrey's mixtape, put your headphones on now. It's infectious, hard-edged rap that needs to be on the radio and spinning in nightclubs stat. As Rihanna's sound treads more and more into the trap and hip-pop scene, her brother is spitting beats reminiscent of early 2000s rap: heavy bass, minimal synths, and hard-as-nails lyrics. He's blending the sound of pre-Alicia Keys' Swizz Beats with Jay-Z circa The Blueprint, and it's far from sounding reductive. It's as fresh as his sisters — which has us wondering when the siblings will team up for a track or two. The music powerhouse the Fenty's could create has our imagination working double-time. We're totally feeling the EDM-infused hip-hop these days, but there's nothing like hearing a new track that sends us on a sonic nostalgia trip. The Carter-Knowles clan may be zeitgeist royalty, but when (not if) Rihanna and Rorrey hit the studio together, world domination is an EP or two away. (Daily Mail)
