Kanye West went on yet another public rant about design and commodities this week because, well, he has opinions. During Bret Easton Ellis' podcast, West openly called out the CEO of Zappos and his company's apparently "sh*t" products.
"I got into this giant argument with the head of Zappos that he's trying to tell me what I need to focus on," West admitted. "Meanwhile, he sells all this sh*t product to everybody. His whole thing is based off of selling sh*t product."
All right: a.) Zappos doesn't manufacture its own products and b.) why was Kanye even meeting with Zappos? Are the two in cahoots with a potential (well, now highly unlikely) collaboration? How would Zappos even do a collaboration when it's merely an outlet for brands? That'd be like having eBay collaborate with H&M.
Well, Zappos took the belittlement in stride (pun is definitely intended there) and made its own authentic sh*t product appropriately called the Zappos.com Gear Sh-t Product. Its got a price tag that makes West's $120 white A.P.C. tee look like chump change. For $100,000 (plus free shipping) you, too, can get your own genuine sh*t product because, according to the e-commerce site, Zappos "happily sell[s] sh*t products to everybody!" Even the product's description is a dig at West. "This is the throne, everyone has been watching. Whether you're #1 or #2, your clique will show no mercy, even in Paris." We'd like to say "ouch," but instead let's get a slow clap going; this kind of product genius deserves it. (The Cut)
