Playing with the oft explored but rarely well filmed concept of technological singularity (y'know, like in
The Lawnmower Man?
), Transcendence sees Depp teaming up with first-time director and long-time Christopher Nolan cinematographer Wally Pfister along with other attractive and competent actors such as Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Cillian Murphy, and Kate Mara. Apparently Hall's character uploaded the mind of her technologist husband (Depp) to a computer after he's assassinated by an anti-technology activist who probably also hates people who play Candy Crush on the train, too. After that all Depp hell breaks loose.
