In case you haven't been paying attention (shame on you), Ariana Grande has gotten herself embroiled in a bit of an "I love America"-off this week. After licking a couple doughnuts and then bemoaning childhood obesity by way of saying she "hates America and Americans," the singer issued a formal apology.
"I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I've always made it clear that I love my county [sic]," the singer recently told Fox. "What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the doughnuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words."
Rob Lowe isn't buying Grande's apology. "As my grandpa would say: "Yeah, sure. Pull the other leg, it plays jingle bells! #Lame," the actor tweeted. He didn't stop there, either. "Cannot wait for the new Arianna Grande [sic] / Dixie Chicks jam to drop! #IActuallyLoveAmerica," he also wrote.
Does anyone else think maybe this is all getting blown a little bit of out proportion? Does there really need to be a formal investigation into the doughnut licking? We're not totally sure it's necessary, although we hope that Grande has learned a lesson about keeping her tongue to herself in a place where there is likely security footage.
Also, there is enough of America for all of us to love, Rob Lowe. Though we really appreciate your awesome grandpa joke and will probably be employing it ourselves in the near future.
