It wouldn’t be a new year in S.F. without a brand-spankin’-new restaurant opening, right? So, in true Bay Area form, another much-anticipated eatery is swinging open its delicious doors. We sure hope giving up carbs or dairy wasn't a part of your 2013 resolutions, because The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen (our soup and sammie Mecca) is officially moved in and slinging its savory items in a second location at 20th and Harrison — joining the ranks of a gaggle of other hot businesses setting up shop on the newly buzzy Outer Mission strip, which stretches all the way to Florida Street.

The cheesy joint held a quiet soft opening on December 28. Owner Nate Pollak told us about 200 hungry peeps showed up (all through word of mouth) to get their mitts on the tasty creations. “Despite the lack of tables, patrons ate at the bar, outside, or packed the goods to go,” says Pollak. He also told us that if all goes according to plan, and the walnut tables finally arrive, the location will officially open as early as Friday, January 4.
Appetite got the best of you and just can’t wait until then? Well, The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen is hosting an additional celebration tomorrow, Thursday, January 3, from 9 a.m. until they are all sold out. Now this is bit of news we can sink our teeth into! Resolutions, schmesolutions!
The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, 2400 Harrison Street (at 20th Street); 415-243-0107.
