The teaser trailer for season 2 of 13 Reasons Why has finally arrived and two important characters appear to be missing. The highly stylised trailer features a number of the show's important characters surrounded by Polaroid photos of their experiences. The Polaroids tell a different story from the tableau — for example, Jessica (Alisha Boe) is smiling when the camera comes toward her, but the Polaroids around her show a much more troubled person. (In season 1, Jessica was date-raped by Bryce, played by Justin Prentice.) The trailer pans over Tony (Christian Navarro), Jessica, Mr. Davis (Joseph C. Phillips), Bryce, Mrs. Baker (Kate Walsh), and Clay (Dylan Minnette). The gang's all here, except for a few important characters.

Tyler (Devin Druid) isn't present, as well as Alex (Miles Heizer) and Justin (Brandon Flynn). Tyler, pictured above, is the photographer who shoulders some of the blame for Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) death. There's a running theory that Tyler is the nexus of the second season, judging by the dramatic shot of his photographs at the end of season 1. One theory posits that Tyler will enact a school shooting. Another suggests that Tyler will narrate the season in lieu of Hannah Baker. This theory is supported by all the Polaroids in the teaser trailer — written on the photographs are accusations not unlike Hannah Baker's. The implication seems to be that Tyler photographed all the characters from season 1 and is now using the photographs as punishment.
Alex's character missing from the trailer is slightly alarming, as some have theorised that the character died by suicide at the end of season 1. However, both he and Druid are listed on IMdB as being in the second season, so let's hold out hope. Lastly, Justin's absence looks like just a blip. As the sometimes boyfriend of Jessica, it seems unlikely that he'll be missing from season 2 — he's also listed on IMdB — but who knows? Maybe he took off mid-season to cavort with his partner Sam Smith.
