We certainly know plenty of L.A. ladies with enviable long locks, and beachy, wavy, Rapunzel-like hair will always hold a place in our hearts. But lately we've been obsessed with a new crop of cuts that have been appearing on some of our fave hair heroes, like Emma Watson and Jessica Stroup. We first spotted the 90210 star with her shorn locks at the Vanessa Bruno bash, and couldn't keep our eyes off her adorable new 'do. There's something totally fresh and fun about super-short hair for winter because it's as unexpected as it is effortless, and it allows you to play with the season's boldest make-up trends. But before you hop over to your nearest salon, there are some tricks to the trim you should keep in mind. So we've asked Hollywood's hottest hair stylist, Jen Atkin from the Andy LaCompte Salon, who also happens to be responsible for Stroup's sweet new style, to give us a little insight on the do's and don'ts of this winter's most winning cut.

Do: Chose a cut that works for your face shape: "We were inspired by Carey Mulligan's feminine-tomboy cut on the cover of Vogue. Remember that this style works best on oval or round face shapes."
Do: Use your fingers rather than a brush to blow dry and don't forget a great styling product like Sebastian Matte Putty Texturizer ($13) for piece-y texture and Joico Texture Spray ($13) for volume.
Don't: According to Jen, "some girls who get this style feel that it makes them look a little heavier, so keep that in mind before you take the plunge."
