First Look! 29 Reasons To Smile, Courtesy Of Madewell’s Spring Lookbook

We may not have any idea what we're wearing tomorrow, but thanks to Madewell's Spring '13 lookbook, we know exactly what we'll be slipping into as soon as the clouds part and the mercury rises. In 29 cheery, picture-perfect looks (we heartily approve of that number, by the way), Madewell reminds us why it's our perennial go-to for effortless, fashion-forward casual wear.
This season, separates take center stage, in a saturated, candy-coated palette that mixes perfectly with toned-down chambray, indigo, and touches of brown leather. Sweaters are perfectly slouchy, shorts show plenty of leg (we're upping our lunges starting today), and whether in painterly florals, or striped utilitarian smocks, dresses are easy above all else. No figure-hugging fabric here — the brilliance of these clothes is that they're young and sexy, but in that effortless, this-old-thing? way.
As we've come to expect from Madewell, the clothes aren't the only highlight: The lookbook is also chock-full of clever styling that we plan to ape at the first opportunity. Citrus-hued lace paired with denim, a white smock dress over crisp white jeans — and while we have grave doubts about our ability to mix camo print with pastel plaid, we'll give it the ol' college try. And, as usual, the messy-haired Madewell models make a great case for dry shampoo (especially our fave face, Jenna Lyons look-alike Michele Ouellet).
All in all, it's an easy, playfully offbeat collection that perfectly captures that exuberant, first-day-of-spring feeling. We can't wait to wear it all — just as soon as we can bare a leg without risking frostbite.
