It's safe to say that costume designer Catherine Martin has the sickest job in Tinseltown. Responsible for the wardrobe of The Great Gatsby, she's been busy dousing Carey Mulligan in Tiffany & Co. diamonds and outfitting Leo DiCaprio in custom Brooks Brothers. But, nothing beats the fact that this gal gets to powwow over dropped waists and fur collars with one of the world's most iconic fashion designers, Miuccia Prada.
Yep, the Met Ball's most recent guest of honor is responsible for 40 cocktail and evening dresses, all reinterpreted from past Miu Miu and Prada wares. Fans of the Italian fashion house will recognize the silhouettes and embroidery of Prada's spring 2011's collection in these newly released sketches. And, don't be surprised if a certain sequined sheath gives you a case of déjà vu — the frock is strikingly similar to Kerry Washington's marvelous Miu Miu number from this year's Golden Globes.
As Prada's muse (she even wore one of her creations down the aisle!), Mulligan and Miuccia are a perfect fashion pairing. Now, the question isn't whether or not you'll be seeing the flick after witnessing these gorg sketches, it's if you've got that Google Alert in place for first dibs to a midnight screening. We know we do! (Grazia)
