The Academy Of Art’s Fall ’13 Collections Are For The Bold At Heart

The fashion-design students at the Academy of Art University are not afraid to go big or go home. The latest fall ’13 collection churned out by 10 skilled upper-level AAU attendees can be described as anything but subtle. Holding nothing back, the budding style engineers presented their creations at NYFW last week, and they passed our test with flying colors — on pure risk-taking alone!
Take Janine Villa and Amanda Nervig, who sent out dizzying mix-matched patterns and eye-popping knitwear that electrified our senses. For those looks, we can thank vintage Welsh blankets and Josef Albers paintings for serving as the young designers' inspiration.
Following suit, Theresa Field, James Thai, and Leah Aripotch's collaborative creations featured floral illustrations that definitely don’t exist in your grandmother’s closet. And we were equally as mesmerized by the grey and white monochromatic looks embellished with fur and buckles that looked fit for a snow queen.
Take a gander at all the winning ensembles after the jump for proof that S.F.'s got next!
