Kate Middleton Is Doing It Wrong, According To Vivienne Westwood

Kate Middleton has been lauded by many for being the most relatable royal out there (aside from Prince Harry, perhaps, whose party-boy antics certainly ring true for a few of us). She's got that girl-next-door look, and a smile that's anything but haughty — plus, she even recycles outfits like the rest of us. True, wearing a $1,800 dress twice doesn't sound like your typical coupon-clipper strategy, but it's practically unheard of among celebrities. Still, Vivienne Westwood is not impressed.

The British designer has slammed the Duchess of Cambridge in the past, saying Kate has "a problem with eye makeup." This time, she gave slightly more constructive criticism: "I think it would be great if she wore the same clothes over and again, because that's very good for the environment and it would send out a very nice message. If you're going to all that trouble to get an outfit that suits you, then you should keep on wearing it." Westwood has always been vocal about climate change, and we can't say we disagree with her statement in theory. We could all do to pare down our wardrobes a bit. But, if you're going to speak out against a celebrity for being wasteful with clothing, you could probably find a better target than Kate.

Westwood made these comments just before her fall '13 runway show, which she says is for playing dress up and being "wonderfully glamourous." It might not be the best business model to encourage frugality and outfit recycling when you're trying to sell a collection, but no one can say Viv doesn't speak her mind — at any cost.
