Your First House? This East Village Gem Is Surprisingly Affordable

If you're looking to buy your first apartment in the city, we owe you a congrats — you're more together than most New Yorkers (hey, we know all about tiny studios). Props aside, we understand house-hunting in the Big Apple can be a huge undertaking, especially for first-time buyers. On top of the pressure of committing to one neighborhood for years to come, there's the fact that, well, most apartments are pretty awful. From bed bugs to miniscule closets to "views" of the brick wall next door, it's easy to lose hope — especially when said pads are ringing in at prices that could score you a football field anywhere else.
But, fear not buyers, because we've found what just might be one of the better starter apartment in all of Manhattan. This East Village one bedroom is full diamond-in-the-rough-status, with exposed bricks, a breakfast bar, a working fireplace, and even a classic, old-timey claw foot tub. Of course, since this is NYC, this dreamy abode doesn't come cheap — shacking up here will put you back almost $800,000. But, compared to what we've seen for this price in this location (Think: a kitchen the size of a Starbucks Trenta; a closet that's also a bathroom), the price-tag almost seems reasonable. We know, we know....we've been drinking the NYC real estate Kool-Aid a little too long. (Corcoran)
