What A Thrill! Tobey Maguire Takes On Hitchcock For Vogue

By now, Vogue readers can smell a Grace Coddington directed shoot from a mile away. The pointed drama, the detailed sets, and the fashion-fantasy wares are all telltale signs of an effort from the magazine's creative director. And, while leafing through the April issue, our jaws nearly plummeted to our laps after laying eyes on her latest coup — a reprisal of Alfred Hitchcock's classic Rear Window — starring Tobey Maguire and Carolyn Murphy and photographed by Peter Lindbergh.
It's been a minute since we've seen something of this caliber from the glossy — no models jumping with their mouths agape and zero zoo animals to distract readers from the subjects clothes at hand — which, in this case, is the '50s-inspired garb shown on the spring '13 runways. Even the models chosen are a breath of fresh air: At 37, Carolyn Murphy is an industry vet, while A-lister Tobey Maguire plays an impeccable supporting role to the tulle dresses, circle skirts, and elbow-length gloves. The fact that this dashing celeb took a backseat to the fashion, coupled with Hitchcock's often imitated (but rarely duplicated) sense of suspense, gives us fashion shivers.
