There’s a lyric from the song, Asthma Attack by CocknBullKid that sums up how we feel about London, 15% of the time. “London I love you but you’re bringing me down.” The horrible commutes, urban foxes and slowcoach tourists clogging up the tubes can give one a case of the mean reds. Breathe, relax, and watch this beautiful video shot in 1926 of London, in a frenetic but it seems, gentler time.
Claude Friese-Greene whose father was a cinematographer and early pioneer of colour film shoots the movie. As the camera pans up and down the river, its fun to see how much and how little has changed. But it’s the streets and the lack of cars, bus, and coaches on them that prove to be the biggest surprise. My how this city has grown. London, you’ve come a long way and we love you for it.
