The Devil Wears Prada Sequel Is Out, And The Review Is Hellish

Last we saw The Devil Wears Prada's Andrea Sachs and Miranda Priestly, they were quietly acknowledging the notion that respect can transcend age, social status, and job titles (sort of) as they — well, Miranda — rode off into the distance, in her limo and obligatory sunglasses.
Flash forward 10 years, and uh, what?! Author Lauren Weisberger has re-imagined their lives in a sequel titled Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. Dun, dun, dunnnn! So, what's in store? Andrea and former Runway-colleague Emily are BFFs running a luxury, bridal magazine that Miranda is considering acquiring. More importantly, Andrea is about to marry new, wealthy guy Max, whom she "doesn't trust" after learning from his disapproving mother that he bumped into his ex on his bachelor-party trip. And therein lies the thickest plot of this sequel: She doesn't trust Max, marries him anyways (but we loved Adrian Grenier!), gets pregnant, and feels trapped in her glamorous life.

Book editor Sherryl Connelly writes in her review for the NY Daily News: "[Weisberger] simply does not have the skills to do justice to the fictional woman that Streep developed into an iconic figure." Eesh! Sounds like Connelly's ending punchline lands harder than any bumbling comedic scenario this second book provides. Her epic close? "Full disclosure: In a recent conversation with the author, I told her I liked Revenge Wears Prada.
I lied politely only because the truth would have been as bad as the book." Said like a true Miranda. But let's get real, we'll still probably see the movie. Will you? (NY Daily News)
