We're just gonna come right out and say it: If loving Scandal is wrong, we don't want to be right. We just can't get enough of Olivia Pope and her high flying gang of no-nonsense lawyers — and Kerry Washington's awe-inspiring, take-no-prisoners portrayal of the show's protagonist sure doesn't hurt. Thanks to the series' cult following, Washington has totally risen up the ranks of Hollywood's A-list, and we couldn't be happier.
The gorgeous star is sealing her status with a spot on the cover of Vanity Fair's August issue, and she looks every bit the kick-ass heroine. While modeling an itty-bitty one-piece, Washington talked to the mag about her show's — and her character's — groundbreaking popularity. "The fact that white women can see this woman of color as an aspirational character is revolutionary, I think, in the medium of television," she says. "I don't think white women would feel that way about Olivia if her identity as a woman, period, wasn't first in their mind."
