July 4 has come and gone, and with it, so has the long weekend — c'est la vie. Fortunately, an early Bastille Day fête is just around the corner. This Thursday, the Phillips Collection collaborates with Brightest Young Things to celebrate painter Georges Braque, the pioneer of Cubism. True to the movement, the event revolves around the modern-art revolutionary’s still-life paintings — though it's anything but inanimate. The soirée’s menagerie of fun features an Onomonomedia photobooth, a let-them-eat-cake dessert bar, Cubism-inspired cocktails, and musical performances by DJ Tommy Cornelis, electric-cellist Wytold, guitarist Jonny Grave, and vocalist Margot MacDonald — and that’s just the first part of the night.
When: Thursday, July 11, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. After-party from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Where: The Phillips Collection, 1600 21st Street NW; 202-387-2151. Malmaison, 3401 Water Street NW; 202-817-3340.
