Ryan Korban may have a flair for the theatrical (after all, he did move to New York to study drama), but the Philadelphia native knows how to work over-the-top stage appeal into an environment that is luxe, edgy, and modern. In fact, the 29-year-old interior designer has made a name for himself channeling ornate old-world aesthetics into a very specific point of view, appreciated and lauded by many, including Alexander Wang and Jessica Stam.

Tell us about your sale on One Kings Lane. Why did you decide to work with the flash-sales site?
"I have worked with One Kings Lane in the past and had a great time doing so. I have always loved their site. I think what they do is innovative and pushes the interior industry forward. I love working with companies that understand the importance of energizing the industry."

Which piece best describes the Ryan Korban aesthetic? Which piece should every person have in their homes?
"Something sexy. Fur pillows, brass table, black leather chairs. Everyone should have good accessories; they are what make a home really stand out."

There are a lot of furs and heavier materials in this sale; if customers were to purchase them now, how should they showcase them in their homes, since thicker materials are usually a no-no in the summer?
"I think it's always important to have heavier items — it really grounds a room. The key is to not have too many heavy pieces. I always mix heavy items with light fabrics, which is always a stunning mix."

Speaking of no-nos, which "design rules" are you constantly breaking? Do you have any personal design mantras?
"To be honest, I am not really sure what the rules are. I always live by the rule that the energy of the space has to be the most prominent aspect of the room. It’s always about the feeling when I design."

You're known for taking these luxe textures and materials and modernizing it for the cool downtown New York set (including Alexander Wang, Natasha Poly, Jessica Stam, and more!). How do we do that?
"I think it’s about extracting luxury and using it in ways that feel right for you. For me, it’s not about taking items like fur, crystal, stone, and using them in ways that do not feel precious or too preppy. I think the use of these materials is what brings the modernity to a space. It adds a certain youthfulness to the idea of luxury."
