If you haven't jumped on the Olivia Wilde fan bandwagon yet, now is definitely the time. The actress has been heating up the big screen for years now (and doing some seriously good deeds in her downtime), but thanks to her latest column for Glamour we're realizing that she's probably the coolest/funniest/most down-to-earth gal in Tinseltown. In honor of her upcoming 30th birthday (mazel!), Wilde penned a special Dos & Don'ts dedicated to making the transition from 20-something to serious adult.
Not only is she an amazing writer, but she dishes out some inspiring advice. Entering your '30s (dubbed by the star as the "Cut the Bullsh-t and Go Be Awesome" stage) can be a scary experience filled with lofty expectations, endless self-comparisons, and that nagging biological clock, but the Drinking Buddies star reminds us all why we need to start giving ourselves a break — and even major props. After all, as she points out, what's truly important is the kind of person we are, and not what we've managed to achieve by a certain age. "What do you want people to say at your funeral," she writes. "'Olivia may have cured HIV, but she ran over my cat and drove away laughing?' No, thanks! I'd rather be a good person who makes people happy than a dick who wins a Nobel by 32."
Wilde also waxes poetic on the topics of plastic surgery (don't do it!), travel (get out and explore while you still can), the pressure to pop out kids, and why this is the perfect time to try new things. Even if you've already passed the milestone (or turning 30 is way in your future), her essay is worth a read. Her life advice is some of the most heartfelt we've heard from an A-lister, and there's never a wrong time for a good laugh. (Glamour)
