Details regarding The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack remain mysterious, but following Coldplay sharing its OST cut, "Atlas," we've learned that The National will also be featured in the world of Panem. The crazy thing is, it almost didn't make the cut. Apparently its submission was "too dark" — even for a film series as grim and grisly as The Hunger Games.
National frontman Matt Berninger noted the irony, quipping to
NME, "...I thought [it] was sort of funny because [the movie] is about killing kids. I don't know how a song can be darker than that?" Originally, the track it penned for the movie was called "Dying Is Easy," but it's now been changed to the more benign-sounding "Lean." Despite the minor controversy, Berninger praised the overall experience of creating a song for the vastly popular franchise, saying: "It was a really fun project…It was a cool change from how we normally work on things — to write something for something else. It was kind of a pressure release thing and it was fun, we really enjoyed it."
Rumor has it that Ellie Goulding will also be on the soundtrack, thanks to her own Twitter semi-confirmation. With only two months until The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's theater release, we're getting antsy for updates on, well, anything. But, like Katniss Everdeen, we must be strong, patient, and wise.
