Since When Did Cleavage Become A Fashion Thing?

Bras? Sooooo over. At least that's the message we got loud and clear from Paris Fashion Week. While the city's signature style is associated with Breton tops, unstated chic and a certain je ne sais quois, visitors to the city this season served up a very different trend.

Let's started with Kim Kardashian, who wore a ribcage-grazing spring '14 Givenchy dress to the screening of Carine Roitfeld's Madamoiselle C. Of course, naysayers will accuse Kim of dressing in a manner appropriate to an attention-seeking reality star, but given that she's got Carine’s stamp of approval, and Phoebe Philo and co. are desperate to dress her daughter, perhaps now is a good time to admit that Kim's got fashion klout, and she might just be onto something.

Plus she’s not alone in flaunting the hitherto ignored sternum.

Another dabbler is Miranda Kerr, who greeted photographers earlier this week in Paris wearing a flouncy ivory frock that displayed her décolletage—and then some. The trend for showing some skin has made appearances elsewhere. Claire Danes' awesome Emmy frock provides a prime example, while Gwyneth's recent tuxedo—hold the shirt and bra—demonstrates yet another facet to the trend.

While there's no denying that super-cleavage is where it's at, sartorially speaking, it's harder to predict if and how the trend will translate to the wardrobes of ordinary fashion-loving folk. After all, it's hardly a practical, and we guess even mega fashion devotees would be happier forsaking their Celine tote rather than their bra. Still, perhaps now is an excellent time to buy some shares in fashion tape...just in case.
