Truth be told, it's kind of hard not to be on Team Avril. Sure, ten years ago, when she was espousing punk as something that was purchased at Hot Topic and was using alphanumeric ways to spell "Skate," she felt a bit like a naughty kid sister. But a decade has passed and, despite being married to one heckuva maligned frontman, she is still out there, being Avril. And there is nothing more enjoyable than someone who is out there, just doing them — while also evolving as a public persona.
For the most recent issue of Bello Mag, the cover girl ditches her traditional get-up for a high-fashion turn, looking more Old Hollywood than Young Canada. Certainly, her trademarked raccoon eyes are still as heavily lined as they have ever been, but the singer has ditched her oft-dyed hair for gorgeous, naturally hued waves. The magazine outfitted her in ladylike Prada and Nina Ricci, tapping into an unexpected '50s vibe. In short: She looks amazing.
At 29 and on her fifth album, Avril Lavigne survived the aughties pretty awesomely...even if "Complicated" still gives some of us the willies, after all this time.
