Ladies and gents, keep your Tuesday evenings free because the second day of the week is getting a romance makeover. If you’re of the opinion that Monday blues dampen any chance of first-date romance or you prefer to keep your weekends free for friends, then you’re bound to like the sound of Tuesdate.
Tuesdate is the brainchild of London singletons Liz Ashford and Faye Marriott. It aims to make you feel more at ease at speed-dating and singles events by holding them on — you guessed it — Tuesdays. Psychologist Dr. Funke Baffour suggests it is the most “positive” day of the week for a first date. “Mondays are associated with the dreaded fear of going back to work,” she says. “In the past, weekends were popular for first dates but now the workload that many employees face leaves them feeling too exhausted to even contemplate it.”
Does this ring true for you? If so, you might be pleased to hear that Tuesdate’s approach to the dreaded speed date is not so scary. “The speed-dating events Faye and I were going to earlier this year were in brightly lit, huge west London bars where we had to wear name badges and neither of us felt relaxed or comfortable,” Ashford says. “We believe it’s vital that people feel at home, so we decided to go for friendly local pubs.” Numbers count too — Tuesdate won’t have more than 50 people at any one event — “nice and intimate, but enough people to give you a real shot at meeting someone special.” Tuesdate, you've got our number.
