Just when you thought you'd finally woken from the fantastic nightmare-scape of David Lynch's summer album The Big Dream, along comes this nicely terrifying B-side. Much more than the album tracks, "Bad the John Boy" strongly suggests a revisit with Downward Spiral-era Nine Inch Nails — which maybe doesn't come as that big of a surprise, considering that Lynch directed NIN's recent "Came Back Haunted" video and Trent Reznor penned music for Lynch's 1997 film Lost Highway. Surely the two have influenced one another. Have a listen.
It's far more unsettling than the Twin Peaks-tinged blues of The Big Dream, which included Lynch's cover of Bob Dylan's "Ballad of Hollis Brown" and "I'm Waiting Here," a beautiful and haunting track Lynch collaborated on with Lykke Li. This one's all low, growling, and distorted voices over an industrial loop. And, for some of us, that's just the way we like it.
Happy night terrors! (Huffington Post)
