Privacy in the digital age is a foreign term. Tack on the celebrity status, and one's private life is almost synonymous with their public. Tom Daley, the 19-year-old Olympic diver, has been at the brunt of many a relationship rumor, and he's finally had enough. To settle a recent interview misquote, Daley took to YouTube to tell his side of the story so his words wouldn't get "twisted" anymore than they have been.
"In an ideal world I wouldn't be doing this video because it shouldn't matter," Daley said explaining his avoidance of the whole "who are you dating" topic. "Come spring this year my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe, and everything just feels great," he continued. "And, well, that someone is a guy."
Daley's approach to his sexuality is confident and mature, and we're thrilled for him. He's well aware of his platform and how his words will likely continue to be misconstrued. He didn't come out as gay; he didn't come out at bisexual. He simply answered a question he's been asked an umpteen amount of times. The world spins madly on. And, even if some of his family has mixed emotions about the news, we'd just like to put it out there that he's still a champion in our eyes.
