British InStyle’s latest cover features none other than Downton Abbey’s number one gal, Lady Mary Michelle Dockery. Her interview in the January issue reveals the surprisingly stabilising influence DA has cast over her life, “It's a very solid and successful job; it just gives you that sense of security, I guess. I mean, I own a flat now. I worked out I moved 16 times from the age of 19, just hopping about from different flats, because I couldn't always afford to stay. It's lovely to feel stability."
For those of you who imagine Dockery is as reserved and formal as Lady Mary Crawley, think again. This It-Brit loves nothing better than a blast of karaoke. She describes her ideal sing-along as, "It starts with something like 'Back to Black'. Then I will have a drink and it'll be 'Total Eclipse of the Heart', and by the end of the night I'll be desperately trying to do Whitney Houston, which never goes down very well for anyone." Well, those high notes are a nightmare to reach.
The real takeaway from the interview is the actress’s choice words of advice about the dreaded aging process. Just don’t worry about it. She explains, “In my twenties I was a bit of a worrier; it bothered me what people thought of me, what job I was doing. But, the day I hit 30 I didn't give a shit anymore." It’s an empowering statement to make about a process many women find tough to deal with. But, then again we wouldn't expect anything less from the woman who portrays one of televisions' most revered and formidable women.
