Miley Cyrus may have come up short at the Grammy nominations announcement yesterday, but she’s shattered Vevo viewing records, and has the two most watched videos of 2013 with “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop.” Not too shabby. Impressively, “Wrecking Ball” slightly trumps “We Can’t Stop” with over 387 million views to the latter’s 301 million, despite being released months later. (It actually reached 100 million views in six days — a record). Other major Top five contenders include will.i.am and Britney Spears’ “Scream and Shout,” Katy Perry’s “Roar,” and Rihanna’s “Diamonds.”
Pink’s collaboration with Nate Ruess, “Just Give Me A Reason" — also a strong Grammy contender with a Song of the Year nomination — comes in sixth, while Robin Thicke’s love-it-or-leave-it sleaze anthem “Blurred Lines” is seventh — not as high as you may have expected! Then again, Emily Ratajkowski's topless performance got the video banned from YouTube for a bit, before being reinstated in July. That may have cost it some views.
The video for “Stay” featuring Mikky Ecko, marks Rihanna’s second entry in the pop female-heavy Top 10 at number eight, while “La La La” by Naughty Boy and Sam Smith and “Kiss You” by One Direction round out the top 10. Surprisingly, no Lady Gaga this year — but then again, her "Do What You Want" clip with R. Kelly is on its way just in time for 2014. Watch "Wrecking Ball" above.
