Cosmetic surgery isn't always the most comfortable thing to talk about. While there's plenty of speculation among the public when it comes to celebrities and models going under the knife, women in the spotlight aren't always very open. But, Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio is speaking out about a harrowing ordeal she went through as a child. As it turns out, she had botched plastic surgery at the young age of 11.
"I always knew I wanted to be a model, so I decided to have my ears pinned back because they stuck out a bit," she told Net-A-Porter. "I found this doctor in my hometown in Brazil who had only done it once before, so I was the guinea pig." And, yes, it turned out just as scary as it sounds. "The first few nights, it felt like someone had cut off my ears," she said. "For a year, I had to go back for mini-surgeries. Doctors say they can fix them, but plastic surgery freaks me out now."
We don't know what is sadder here: The fact that Ambrosio went through plastic surgery at such a young age, or the fact that she was so worried about her appearance at such a young age. We think 11-year-olds should be focused on after-school sports and sleepovers, and not how their ears might affect their careers. Either way, it's refreshing to hear her speak candidly about a slightly taboo subject. (ABC News)
