More changes are in store for Katie Couric, who announced her new role as Yahoo’s Global Anchor. According to a joint announcement from Couric and Disney-ABC, the former CBS News anchor’s talk show, Katie, will end its run in June 2014.
“We’re very proud of everyone’s contributions to making Katie the #1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-2013," the statement read, “and we look forward to the rest of the season.”
Rumor has it that Couric wanted to go in a more news-driven direction with the show, while producers pushed for lighter, gossipy fare. Also, ratings dipped slightly this past year, from 2.26 million to 2.17 million viewers.
In addition to seeing Katie through its current season, the journalist will start covering "the world's most interesting stories and newsmakers" for Yahoo in the coming year, with interviews featured on the web giant’s homepage. We couldn't be more excited for her — welcome to the Internet, Couric!
