Robin Roberts sure knows how to make a statement. In a surprise year-end Facebook note in which she reflects on her battle with a rare blood disorder that nearly claimed her life, the Good Morning America host also casually disclosed that she's gay. Roberts wrote: "I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together. I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold. On this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too."
According to CNN's media-guru Brian Stelter, it was the first mention Roberts has made in public in which she acknowledges girlfriend, Amber Laign, a licensed massage therapist who specializes in patients recovering from injuries. Roberts is no stranger to recovery herself after a 2007 battle with breast cancer and a bone marrow transplant this year. But, in September, Roberts made her heroic return to television and became one of the feel good stories of the year. Now, with her end-of-the-year reflection, Roberts has pushed the feel-good limits to bold new heights. (THR)
