If your skin is anything like ours come wintertime, it develops a sassy new alter ego that is equal parts dry, oily, and sensitive. Unfortunately, our skin-care arsenals aren’t always equipped to deal with these seasonal changes. That’s where the DIY sheet mask comes in handy. From fighting acne to moisturizing, these convenient little sheet masks can do it all (and they won’t break the bank).
Designed by Muji, the Compressed Facial Mask Sheets are meant to be used by any person with any skin type, from dry to acne-prone, and create a customized facial experience with every use. All you need is a toner or homemade mixture of your choosing. Just pop one of the compressed sheet tablets into your liquid of choice, slightly wring it out, apply it to your face, and remove after a few minutes. It’s that easy.

To get you started on the path to sheet-mask perfection, we spoke with Elena Arboleda, head aesthetician at Mario Badescu. “Sheet masks are a great way to get the benefits of treatments that are made in liquid form because the sheet allows the product to have direct contact with the skin for a period of time,” says Arboleda. Think of sheet masks as a protective blanket for your skin, only you can fill them with skin-adoring ingredients, like coconut oil and aloe vera gel.
For dry skin, she suggests a mixture of coconut water, five drops of coconut oil, and half a teaspoon of honey. According to Arboleda, coconut oil and water are naturally hydrating, while honey helps to lock moisture into the skin.
For those of you with sensitive skin, a cool cup of chamomile tea mixed with one tablespoon of aloe vera gel and three drops of olive oil will calm any redness or irritation. The aloe vera gel in combination with the olive oil is a surefire way to combat any dryness as well.
Anyone with an acne-prone complexion should try a mixture of 1/4 cup of witch hazel, 3/4 cup of water, and one teaspoon of aloe vera gel. “Witch hazel has been used for centuries to aid troubled skin, and since acne is often accompanied with irritation, a bit of aloe vera gel will help to soothe that irritation and redness,” explains Arboleda.
