After three years of marriage, Hilary Duff and her former hockey-star husband Mike Comrie are calling it quits. But, unlike a lot of high-profile breakups, this sad news doesn't appear be burdened by ugly allegations or gossip: So far, this seems to be the most amicable split ever. (At least, publicly!). According to sources close to the separating couple, there was no singular explosive cause for their decision to split. "There was no major incident — no big event between the two of them. They really did drift apart. They have put effort and thought into this decision for a long time. They tried couples therapy, but in the end, they realized at this time, they work better as friends. And, they really are great friends," the source told

. As some of the elder, wiser commenters on People noted, being great friends is generally a big part of what marriage is about, but in any case, obviously 26-year-old Duff and 33-year-old Comrie have decided their brief nuptials have run their course. For now, Duff's rep is reporting their decision as a "separation," but realistically, there's a decent chance that indicates divorce.

Despite their differences, Duff and Comrie are apparently committed to raising their 21-month-old son Luca Cruz together. "They're still going to go to the park together," the source close to the couple added. Yesterday, Duff tweeted gratitude for the well wishes sent by her Twitter followers. (People)
