While we are more than aware that the weeks directly following the holidays are the time to stick to our diet resolutions, we'll still indulge when a truly delectable treat pops up on our radar. Cue Bo Nuage, a Parisian-chic meets '60s-glam pastry shop specializing in French nuage ("cloud") cakes that's popped up on Melrose Avenue and created the perfect excuse for us to — er, temporarily? — break our no-sweets promise.
Owners Pascal and Audrey Achcar (no newbies to the pastry industry) wanted to continue the Parisian meringue tradition in Los Angeles. Enter L.A. designer Jessica Marx of J. Marx Atelier, who gave the 120-square-foot space its minimalistic black-and-white molding, rose-gold stools, delicate chandeliers, and sleek geometric tiling.
Achcar's nuages, made in-house with organic ingredients, are built from two layers of meringue, filled with whipped cream, then covered in more whipped cream and topped with shaved chocolate. Have you heard of anything better?
With 15 flavors to choose from — from dark chocolate and salted caramel to red velvet and Nutella — these bites of heaven, which are $6 each, come in boxes of one, two, four, or six. Plus, you can also get cakes as big a nine inches for special occasions and there are even non-dairy and gluten-free options. Sounds perfect to us!
Now, all we can say is: Step aside, macaron. There's a new pastry in town.
Bo Nuage, 8010 Melrose Avenue; 310-880-2065.
