It's rare that Drake tells us something we don't already know about him. The 27-year-old rap god's song catalog documents his rise from the not-so-mean streets of Toronto to the pinnacle of hip-hop with meticulous detail. He started from the bottom, and we know exactly how he's here.
Or, so we thought.
In a recent sit-down with Jimmy Fallon to promote his eagerly awaited stint as host and musical guest on tonight's episode of Saturday Night Live, Drake did everything he could to live up to his reputation as a compulsive oversharer. By now, everyone knows that the rapper's career in show business began with a role on the Canadian tween sensation Degrassi, in which he played the wheelchair-bound jock Jimmy Brooks. But, what we didn't know was that Drake was completely faded during his first audition, after he succumbed to some cool-kid peer pressure and took a hit from a bong. What follows is a classic, against-all-odds tale of uncertainty, fear, paranoia, and, ultimately, success. But don't think rap's resident mama's boy would ever imply that doing drugs is the key to success. In fact, he does the exact opposite. Drake, consider us charmed.
