Each year, awards season and its never-ending parade of red carpets, acceptance speeches, and talk show sit-downs introduce us to a wide-eyed fresh face, with more charm than James Bond. Last year, it was the precocious wonder Quvenzhané Wallis. This year, it's Lupita Nyong'o. Thanks to some memorable red-carpet moments and a couple of impassioned acceptance speeches, the stunning 30-year-old Kenyan actress, and breakout star of 12 Years A Slave, has Hollywood eating out of the palm of her hand.
So, it's no surprise that Nyong'o absolutely killed it on Jimmy Kimme Live!, her first major late-night appearance. Growing up in Kenya, Nyong'o admits to being a television addict, with shows like Full House, Friends, and Step By Step serving as her drugs of choice. But, she must have been watching a lot of Letterman, too, because Nyongo's mastered the art of the talk show anecdote. Take for instance, that time she rode a roller coaster with disastrous results. Or, how she's now more famous than her senator father. Though he's apparently having a hard time dealing with it, it's something Mr. Nyong'o is just going to have to get used to. His daughter is the front runner to take home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar come March. Though we have to wait more than a month for the acceptance speech to end all acceptance speeches, the video below is a pretty good consolation prize. (Jezebel)
