Vivienne Westwood’s Ethical Africa Line Is Handmade & Heavenly

Nothing quite trumps that top-of-the-world feeling of investing in beautiful new arm candy. But, when the arm candy in question comes from an ethical source, the aftereffects of that purchase are twofold (a pretty bag and a clean conscience). And, currently tempting us to part with our hard-earned cash is Vivienne Westwood’s new bag collection, which is both socially responsible and gorgeous.
Launching later this week on ASOS, the super affordable range includes hyper-bright unisex shoppers, holdalls, duffle bags, and a pretty striking clutch (we want it now!). Handcrafted in Nairobi from recycled canvas, unused leather cutoffs, and reused roadside banners, the line has been created by communities of women affected by abject poverty in the region.
Dame Westwood has long been outspoken about waste in the industry. She has stated in the past that she thinks we are “buying far too many clothes" and urges everyone to “invest in the world” rather than fashion.
The Ethical Africa bag collection goes on sale on January 24, with prices starting from £58. Fashion with a conscience? We like it.
