There's no chance of Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga topping the 2014 Grammys' most buzzed-about moment. That honor will belong to 34 couples who will get married tonight, on air, during Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' performance of "Same Love." Did we mention that Queen Latifah will be officiating the ceremony?
In a nod to the song's pro-marriage-equality stance, couples of all sexual orientations and races will seal their love as millions watch. Madonna and vocalist Mary Lambert will join the performance, which promises to be one of the most moving in Grammys history. "[The weddings] will be in our minds the ultimate statement of equality, that all the couples are entitled to the same exact thing," says Lewis, whose sister Laura will be among those tying the knot. Kind of makes humping a guy dressed like Beetlejuice seem a bit frivolous, no?
Grammy producers expect the mass wedding to stir up controversy, but they've taken pains to respect the solemnity of the moment. Rather than being paraded onstage, the couples will be placed throughout the aisles, where they'll have a touch more privacy. It's said that the wedding rehearsal got every emotional, so be sure to plop a box of tissues next to you on the couch. BYO wedding cake. (ArtsBeat)
